Founded by Henry VIII, Christ Church Cathedral School (CCCS) is an Independent Prep School set in the heart of Oxford. It has a thriving Co-ed Pre-Prep and Nursery and Prep school for boys aged 8 – 13. It offers boarding for Cathedral Choristers and Flexi-Boarding for day boys aged 8 – 13.
History
Set in the heart of Oxford and opposite Christ Church Cathedral, the School is awash with culture and history. Our Nursery is housed in the 16th century building where Cardinal Wolsey once resided and the School’s roots come from Henry VIII’s 1546 provision for boy choristers and a schoolmaster when he founded Christ Church and its cathedral.
Small class sizes, individual care
With around 150 pupils, class sizes are kept deliberately small so we can focus on the individual needs of each child. With specialist teachers in all areas of the curriculum, our school prepares pupils for entry and scholarships to local independent schools and major boarding schools. In 2024, our boys achieved scholarships to Dean Close, Harrow School, Marlborough College, Rugby School, amongst others.
Choristers
The School is acclaimed for its musical achievements and for supplying choristers to Christ Church’s internationally-
Boarding
Cathedral Choristers board at school. We have recently opened up boarding for day boys to spend regular or occasional nights to enjoy life in our Boarding House.
Extra-curricular programme
We have three choirs and 90% of our pupils learn at least one instrument. The boys are encouraged to participate in drama and perform in our school production every year. Our beautiful grounds on Christ Church Meadow give plenty of opportunities for Football, Rugby and Cricket and other outdoor activities. Swimming, Golf and Real Tennis are also offered.
Daily wrap-around care
Wrap-around care means parents can drop off at 8.00 am and collect at 6.00 pm, depending on age. There is also a Breakfast Club from 7.45 am and a wide range of activities provided in our After School Club.
Our meals
Healthy meals, snacks and milk are provided every day. All our food is locally sourced and cooked from scratch everyday.
Exceptional pastoral care
As a small school, Christ Church Cathedral School is renowned for its family orientated approach and close co-operation between parents and staff. Our boys’ academic and personal progress are closely reviewed by their Form Tutor.
Charitable work caring for the community
Christ Church Cathedral School encourages pupils to be polite, kind and considerate. Every boy is actively encouraged to participate in projects that benefit others. We work with local charities like Angus Irvine Playing Fields Fund (AIPFF). This programme offers sporting opportunities and facilities to under privileged children who might otherwise be attracted by gangs or anti-social behaviour. As well as Oxford Mutual Aid, a local charity which offers 170 households food, toiletries, and baby supplies, and delivers nearly 100 emergency food parcels every week.
We are a safe and happy school with a family atmosphere.
