Wellington Country Park describes itself as Berkshire’s largest playground and it lives up to it. The country park has so much to offer and you can definitely spend a full family day here. It’s long been a favourite of Red Kite Days, our Oxfordshire editor has even camped at the Wellington Country Park campsite. The country park keeps on getting better with so many activities for kids so I was really excited to check it out and update our review.
The country park has so much space that even on a busy day, you can still find a quiet spot. It’s great for a walk about and enjoy the views over the lake or take advantage of all the attractions on offer.
Wellington Country Park Attractions
Most attractions are included with entry except for the miniature railway and the car driving ‘whelly wheels’.
- Play Areas – there are lots of play areas scattered throughout the park and tailored to different age ranges and interests. The large adventure play areas are great for the older kids and there are also great toddler play areas, a lovely big sandpit and play houses.
- Animal Farm & Petting – If your kids love animals they will have a great time meeting the farmyard animals with everything from Shetland ponies to pigs and chickens. This animal petting isn’t currently running due to covid safety measures.
- Jumping Pillow – there’s something about a massive inflated colourful pillow to jump on that kids just love and it’s a great way to ensure they’re fully tired out by the end of the day!
- Splash Park – if it’s a warm day, don’t forget to bring a spare change of clothes. The splash park is a good size with water jets and water pumps.
- Indoor soft play – there’s an indoor soft play area for under 2s only.
- Miniature Railway – my kids loved the mini railway.
- Mini Golf – budding little golfers will enjoy this 12 hole course.
- Adventure Trail – step back in time to the Jurassic period and see how many dinosaurs you can spot.
- Whelly Wheels – Children can get behind the wheel on little automated jeeps. and drive themselves around spotting safari creatures. Suitable for ages 4-10 years.
Eating & Drinking at Wellington Country Park
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes throughout the park where you can pick up lunch, ice cream or a hot cuppa. There are picnic benches and open spaces if you want to bring your own food. I also spotted some BBQ pits last time too.
