Family run Wells Farmshop & Cafe can be found at Peach Croft Farm just outside Abingdon. I’d heard about it from a friend and it was a perfect halfway meeting point to catch up with my dad before Christmas and to treat my boys with a little outing.
The cafe area is spread out across the main cafe, a garden room and for a sunnier day there’s an outdoor area too. It seems to be a popular spot and we were lucky to get a table that had been reserved for lunchtime so if you’re going as a group it might be worth calling ahead to guarantee a spot.
The café serves a selection of dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients, reflecting the establishment’s commitment to supporting regional producers. I’d missed breakfast so went for the sausage bap. I’m very fussy when it comes to sausages and they have to be great quality. These were delicious as was the warm, soft ciabatta roll.
Breakfast and Elevenses is served from 8:30am to 11:30am and there is lots to tempt on the menu. I very nearly went for the chorizo, two fried eggs, coriander & brioche roll which will definitely be on my list for next time of go all out for a full English!
My boys beelined straight to the Elevenses offerings with a croissant and scone. The croissant was buttery and flaky just as it should be, of course I had to have a little nibble so I could review it.
The scone was huge, more of double scone and came with clotted cream and jam and received high praise from the bottomless pit which is my 14 year old. That boy just seems to a constant appetite.
The farm shop is particularly noted for its impressive cheese counter, providing a variety of cheeses that cater to diverse tastes. There’s a wide range of everything you can expect from a great farm shop too and lots of fresh local produce.
Most of the ingredients used in the cafe are available from the farmshop including eggs, sausages, Berties Dressing, scones, coleslaw and more. They stock Cacklebean eggs which are my absolute favourites.
